CEREC® Same-Day Crowns

TOOTH RESTORATIONS DONE IN A SINGLE DAY

CEREC (Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramic) is a method of creating dental restorations on-demand in our dental office! Blueprints for these dental restorations are designed and created using CAD/CAM (computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing). This process means designs are made from 3D digital impressions using computer software and then passed to a unit that fabricates crowns, onlays, veneers, and other single tooth ceramic restoration options while you wait. Normally traditional crowns would typically require creating a physical impression to send out to a laboratory and placing a temporary crown. Due the multiple steps involved with this process, a patient could have several appointments before the permanent crown is secured to the tooth. With this advanced technology, we can now design, create, and place your crown in a single appointment!

Advanced computer-aided design technology and software create perfect, natural-looking restorations in just a few minutes. Now visiting your dentist for a tooth restoration is a simple and non-invasive procedure!

The Same-Day Crown Process

The first step is eliminating the damaged and decayed areas of the tooth, along with reshaping it to create enough space to accommodate a crown. Once the tooth reshaping is complete, digital 3D impressions of your tooth are taken to determine the precise measurements needed for your crown. Next, the appropriate shade of the crown is selected to match your surrounding teeth. The CEREC mill precisely carves a ceramic block into the exact shape and specifications of your restoration. Once the crown is ready, your dentist will carefully cement it in place, and can make any necessary adjustments to maintain the balance and comfort of your bite. This entire process takes around 2 hours!

Benefits of a CEREC Same-Day Crown

  • No return visit! Get a permanent crown created and placed on the same day.
  • Requires minimal removal of healthy tooth structure.
  • No uncomfortable temporary crown needed.
  • CEREC crowns are durable and last 15 years or longer with good oral hygiene habits.
  • Digital imaging ensures precise placement and better fit because it exactly replicates your tooth.
  • Because impressions of your tooth are digital, no goopy, plaster dental molds are needed!
  • Get a color match to your other teeth, so visually no one can tell which tooth has a crown.
  • Because of the smoothness and durability of the outer ceramic layer, the CEREC crown feels and functions like a normal tooth.

FAQs

QUESTIONS ABOUT SAME-DAY CROWNS

What types of dental restorations can CEREC be used for?

  • Crowns – a cap for your tooth, restoring its shape, size, and appearance. A crown may be necessary to strengthen a decaying or cracked tooth, restore a broken tooth, support a tooth with a large filling, or make a cosmetic change.
  • Veneers – a thin, custom-made shell that covers the front surface of your tooth. Veneers are used to improve the look of discolored, misaligned, or irregularly shaped teeth. They can also help restore teeth that are chipped or broken.
  • Onlays – also referred to as a partial crown, cover one or more cusps of the entire biting surface of your tooth. Typically used if your tooth is too damaged to support a filling, but not quite damaged enough for a crown.

Are CEREC crowns temporary?
No. CEREC crowns are made of porcelain and they can last for about 10-15 years with good oral hygiene habits.

Can you eat after a CEREC crown?
Yes! Once the effect of the anesthetic has worn off, you will be able to eat your favorite foods as normal.

How long does it take to produce a CEREC crown?
It takes a single 2 hour appointment to make your custom-fit CEREC crown.
