Dental Bonding

REPAIR MINOR TEETH IMPERFECTIONS

Dental bonding is a non-invasive, cosmetic procedure used to repair minor chips or cracks in teeth, close up minor gaps between teeth, or change the shape and color of a tooth. Since your tooth structure remains intact, the process is simple and comfortable! In fact, most people do not need any anesthesia or pain medication for the bonding procedure. We start the process by roughening the tooth slightly and applying a conditioning liquid. Next, we will apply and shape a tooth-colored composite resin material to match the tooth size, before hardened with a special light, which ultimately “bonds” the material to the tooth. Teeth bonding process typically takes about 30-60 minutes per tooth to complete. Unlike other cosmetic dental treatments, such as porcelain veneers, dental bonding is completely reversible.

A quick, painless, and relatively inexpensive way to fix minor imperfections.

Lifespan of Bonded Teeth

A restorative bonding procedure is durable, natural-looking, and cost effective. Bonded teeth don’t have the same strength as your natural teeth, and some habits can shorten their lifespan. Typically, bonding material lasts from 3-10 years before needing to be touched up or replaced. Taking care of your teeth will help to increase its longevity. Follow good oral hygiene practices, like brushing with a soft or electronic toothbrush, flossing daily and regular dental checkups. You also should avoid eating acidic foods and doing activities that can break or chip your teeth.

FAQs

QUESTIONS ABOUT RESTORATIVE BONDING

Is dental bonding safe for my teeth?
Yes! Unlike some cosmetic and restorative procedures that require permanent changes to the structure of your teeth, dental bonding treatments are not permanent and are 100% safe for your teeth.

Are bonding treatments better than veneers?
For patients with a healthy smile, but have a few chips, gaps, or stains on their teeth, cosmetic bonding treatments can be a non-invasive way to improve their smile. However, if someone has more extensive cosmetic needs, veneers might be a better option.

Can restorative bonding fill gaps in between my teeth?
Yes! Dental bonding can conceal a wide range of cosmetic imperfections, including small gaps between your front teeth. The bonding procedure is an alternative to placing veneers or crowns or undergoing an orthodontic procedure. Since we can typically complete cosmetic bonding in one dental visit, it is the fastest way to complete your smile transformation.

Can it reshape my teeth?
Yes. Bonding is an excellent way to reshape your teeth. We can use it to lengthen your teeth or change their width. By doing so, your teeth can appear more uniform, and we can eliminate the inconsistencies between your teeth. It only takes 30 to 60 minutes per tooth, so reshaping is much easier and faster than people may believe.

Will cosmetic bonding help if my teeth are stained?
Yes, if you have stains on your teeth, we can use bonding to cover them. We suggest trying a whitening procedure first since this can improve the appearance of your smile with relative ease. There are times, however, when a whitening procedure is not enough to remove some of the deep or more significant stains. This is where restorative bonding can be particularly useful. We can place the resin material on top of your stained tooth or teeth in order to improve their appearance.

Is a tooth bonding procedure reversible?
Yes, since we apply bonding without removing the enamel on your teeth, the process is reversible. If you want to change course and restore your teeth or change their appearance with an alternative procedure in the future, you can. While most of our patients are satisfied with the appearance of their teeth after the bonding procedure, some use this as a temporary solution while considering more long-term improvements.
